History of Singapore Airports Video

August 25, 2012

A random search for videos of yesteryear pulled this video from youtube.

Within are some amazing pictures of Kallang Airport, and footage of Paya Lebar and Changi Airports. There are also interviews of a pre-war air traffic controller, a pilot and two air stewardesses.

While watching this, look out for the following interesting bits:

  • The unique circular landing zone for Kallang Airport
  • The adjacent landing slipway for seaplanes at Kallang Airport
  • Old liveries of BOAC, Cathay Pacific, Air India, Singapore Airlines and more
  • The Concorde in BA/Singapore Airlines livery landing and taking off at Paya Lebar
  • Aerial views of Paya Lebar Airport
  • The famous mushroom counter
  • Aerial view of the homes and swampland that would have to be leveled to build the second runway at Paya Lebar
  • Raising of the Changi Airport ATC control tower
  • The interior of the old Changi Terminal 1, including the bronze sculptures and the waterfall
  • Aerial view of Changi Airport without Terminal 2 and the second runway

Many of the buildings at Paya Lebar Airport, and also the Kallang Airport terminal, hangar, and gate still stand today. It is really quite amazing to look at them and wonder how much history those walls had seen.

Excellent blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you recommend starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!
